If you’re reading this right now, then that must mean I finally got around to adding the blog section to my site.
And I really hope you ARE reading this. Whoever you are. Sorry. Wrote this entry in advance before I actually had the blog working.
It’s taken forever for me to add a blog to my site, which is kind of sad when you consider I’ve been planning on doing so since 2021. 3 years, at the time of this writing. It’s rather embarrassing on my end, actually. I’m absolutely terrible when it comes to procrastination, and this site has become yet another casualty of the many things I “plan to get to someday.” At least I’ve updated this site semi-frequently with newer drawings of mine, but everything else needs a TON more work. I only just got around to fixing the navbar positioning on mobile, and I still need to actually add the other sections to this site.
To get technical for a bit, this blog section of the site was generated in Pelican. For those that don’t know, Pelican is a static site generator in Python that allows you to quickly set up and style a blog. It’s actually fairly easy to use, however, the main difficulty laid in integrating the Pelican-generated blog section with the rest of the site, which has its own Python script I wrote for generating the index page, as well as the drawings section. Getting these to work together properly was something I kept putting off, and thus, I never got around to actually uploading the blog until now. The resulting changes to the script I had to make ended up being a hacky set of additions relying on Pelican’s generated Atom feed, but at the very least, things work now.
Everything said and done, however, I’m glad this blog is finally up. I enjoy putting my thoughts down, and wanted a place to put them without having to constrain everything to 240 characters. Short-form, atomic, processed digestible “content” seems to be the norm on the internet these days, and I wanted this site to be a place where my thoughts and drawings can have a bit more permanence outside of disappearing into aether of someone’s algorithmic feed.
I can’t promise that I’ll update this blog, or even just this site in general regularly. As mentioned earlier, I have a bit of a procrastination issue, can be a bit lazy, and, at the time of this writing, am dealing with a summer class. But, even with all that, I’ll try to post when I can. I kinda want to give my thoughts on various topics, like whatever’s going on in the world, or random manga recommendations I want to give. Maybe even arcane nerdy Arch stuff where I post my i3wm setup and explain my scripts and config files. Anything goes. That’s the fun part of being a webmaster. I hope you enjoy as I hopefully continue to update this site.
If you want to stay updated on my latest ramblings, be sure to add my blog feed to an RSS reader of your choice. You can find the link to the feed in the page’s top right on desktop.
